I got an mpc 2000xl and i sample alot of drums but im tryin to get that j dilla thick snapy sound. Would ruynning my turntable into some kinda compressor or filter before going into my mpc help? Give me some recommendations please. Dilla said himself he was a pro tools wizard, so i assume he was doing alot of tweaking when itb, he was on protools, long before it was popular.

But that swing, and the off time drum, thats just something by nature, its about the groove and having everything fit in the right pockets. I love the Dilla sound, but trying to recreate it is just impossible, try to build your own sound but take advice from the greats, or you will forever be chasing someone elses's dreams. Just listen to the original sample from Player.

Below is a video of the studio. It was built by some partners of mine and myself.

He has TONS of equipment and NEVER used 90% of it. There are 2 racks against the wall. In the first one, at the bottom is the ACP88. That was all he ever used.
